Public Policy

At Alexion, we are committed to working with private healthcare organizations, policy makers, and public health authorities to provide patients with rare diseases the access to innovative therapies that they deserve.

We demonstrate our commitment to breakthrough innovation through our first product, Soliris® (eculizumab). Soliris has received two of the industry’s highest honors: the 2008 Prix Galien USA Award for Best Biotechnology Agent and the 2009 Prix Galien France Award in the category of medicines for ultra-rare diseases.

We are focused on our objective that every patient who can benefit from Soliris should have access to Soliris. Alexion offers and supports numerous programs designed to achieve this objective, including:

  • The OneSource Treatment Support Program. Alexion offers OneSource, a program that provides education, assistance with access to Soliris, and treatment support for patients and their caregivers. OneSource is available to people living with PNH and aHUS at no cost. Each patient who enrolls in OneSource will receive one-to-one support from an Alexion Nurse Case Manager, who is a registered nurse, to help coordinate care and assist with obtaining reimbursement. Whether patients are learning more about their disease, exploring treatment options, getting ready to start treatment with Soliris, or are already on Soliris, OneSource is here to help.

  • The COMPLEMENT Foundation. This foundation was established by Alexion to help patients with PNH and aHUS who do not have insurance, access to insurance, or any other means for obtaining Soliris.

  • Patient Assistance Programs. Available through non-profit, charitable organizations, these programs help cover disease and treatment-related costs for underinsured patients.

    • PNH: Patients with PNH who are underinsured can get assistance through a program run by the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), or through a program run by Patient Services, Inc. (PSI).

    • aHUS: Patients with aHUS who are underinsured can get assistance through a program run by Patient Services, Inc. (PSI).
